Margot’s Cosmic Sanctuary at Andrew Edlin Gallery
In 2014, while working as a florist, Margot (born 1982, France) felt a compulsion to begin drawing.
Seven years later and the Andrew Edlin Gallery is exhibiting her first New York show in a space which has been configured to evoke Margot’s own studio.
The show features Margot’s recent large-scale mixed media works on paper; a series of drawings rendered on old photographs, and a travelling notebook filled with studies of organic floral-like shapes, which Margot created using Chinese inks, pencils, pastels, ballpoint pens, and oil paints.
‘Creatio Universalis’ puts emphasis on the unity between the individual and the universe and ‘Tra Miaj Manoj’ comes from Esparanto, the language invented in the late nineteenth century w utopian goal was to bring the world together.
I loved seeing Margot’s work, especially the vintage photographs; her work is mesmerising, magical and then you get up close and see all that intricate detail.
I’m excited to see what Margot produces next.
Margot’s Cosmic Sanctuary is on view at the Andrew Edlin Gallery until October 23rd 2021.
