Fiona Watson at Glasgow Print Studio

Fiona Watson combines everyday delicate subject matters, with bold, bright colours and striking printing techniques.

A Song Long Gone, 2023, etching, 53.5 × 46cm

This exhibition of her works was held in the ground floor gallery of the Glasgow Print Studio, where Watson is a member.

Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada in 1952, Watson moved to London as a child. She originally studied Biological Sciences at Leicester University, which has clearly influenced her practice, as she draws inspiration from the patterns and forms found in nature.

Now based in Glasgow, Watson’s work spans a variety of mediums, including; etching, screen printing, digital imaging, photography, collage and painting.

There is a playful yet thoughtful quality to her work, often referencing Eastern mysticism and symbolism, which makes it all the more intriguing.

Watson’s art has been widely exhibited, both in the UK and internationally. She regularly exhibits in both the Royal Academy and Royal Scottish Academy Summer Shows and her work has been featured on the front cover of Delayed Gratification magazine.

I’m thrilled to say that I’ve added one of her works to the WMA collection.

And Then The Air Turned Blue, 2023, etching with chine-collé, 38 × 38cm

The Starry Messenger, 2023, etching, 48 x 56 cm

If you get the chance to see her work, I’d highly recommend it, it’s a beautiful mix of whimsy, depth, and technical skill.
